{A Shopper’s Delight ~ Handmade and Local}

Over the weekend I invited a fun friend to join me for my first stroll at one of the pop-up Chick Events: Handmade & Vintage. AND NOW I’M ADDICTED!! Makers set up shop on three streets at Park Place in Leawood, KS last Saturday and Sunday, and we didn’t skip a booth–not even the Insta Fun KC Photobooth which was chock-full of props. ;0)

Celebrating it’s third anniversary, this was Chick Events‘ biggest annual show that featured handmade and vintage pieces from midwest designers. Many of the juried vendors are locals, so attendees could support their community and #shoplocal too!

At was so fun to meet the makers and see their custom work in person, though I noticed none of them wanted people to shy away from their website. It was great because my friend and I just grabbed business cards from makers who had no reservations about converting people to online customers. My gal pal is eager to reach out and have custom wooden wall art made by selecting the exact specifications she wants through an online order. And I want to look online for more styles of certain products, so I snagged cards from designers who said they “ship local for free”. Those words are music to my ears because for some reason I get excited about free shipping, as if that’s a gift itself.

Speaking of gifts, you may wonder what some of the finds are at these events. With a huge price range, the can’t miss items were handmade home goods, cool candles, hand-stitched hot clothing, jazzy jewelry, carefully crafted ceramics, whittled woodwork, gourmet good grub and more! Some items are especially unique such as the custom shave kits in old cigar boxes, while others were tried and true favorites like candied nuts.

Here’s a round up of my gift purchases and treats for moi:

  • Ceramic Bridge Air Plant Holder from ArtByJenF – 1 for me!
  • Painted Ceramic Platter from ArtByJenF – 1 Gift!
  • “Merry & Bright” Flour Sack Towel (donning a screen-printed scene of The Plaza with Christmas lights) from FarmDog Studios – 1 Gift!
  • “Lattes & Lipstick Are all I need” and “All I Need is Mascara & Caffeine” Canvas Mini Travel Bags from sheKC Lifestyle – 3 for Gifts!
    • Now I’ll be checking out these ladies’ 3 picks daily or she3
  • Rose Gold Leather Earrings from Lucky Leather Earrings – 1 for me!
  • Peach Mango Salsa from Dragonfly Gourmet Foods – 1 for you, 1 for me!

Also, we had to partake in food and drink for the occasion! I indulged myself with Chicken Spiedini from Carma Cantina and a Mimosa from Gordon Biersch. Both were delish! My friend enjoyed the Cheese Ravioli and a Red Sangria from Carma Cantina. Cheers!

And there you have it. With the gentle sun and the soft breeze, with the bustle of the people and the buzz of excitement in the air, with the handmade goodies and gourmet food, this event was quite the thrill for this Midwest girl! I hope to run into YOU at one of the upcoming Chick Events! Ciao for now!
